UN Women´s Candle Light March
UN Women‘s annual Candle Light march, in honor of the Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, will be held next Sunday on the 25th of November at 5 PM. This day also marks the beginning of 16 days of activism, a global campaign which is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
This year’s March is dedicated to sufferers of gender-based violence that is certainly closer than you think and will be led by Sigrún Sif Jóelsdóttir who showed great courage by taking part in UN Women’s campaign Gender based violence is closer than you think.
The march starts at 5 PM at Arnarhóll by the statue of Ingólfur Arnarson where participants will get a great view of Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre while it lights up in the color orange like many other buildings all around the world. The color orange represents hope and a bright future for girls, free from abuse and violence. Candles will be sold at Arnarhóll for 500 ISK.
Please join UN Women on Sunday for our annual Candle Light March.
