The Upbeat 2017

Composition Award for children and youth

The Upbeat – Young Composers Awards took place last week in Kaldalón as a part of Reykjavik Children’s Culture Festival.

Composition Award for Children and Youth gives young people the opportunity to submit a musical composition or a draft of a composition and receive support to work out their ideas with the artists. The chosen young composers, aged 10-15 years old, attended workshops where they developed their compositions with composers from the Iceland Academy of the Arts and did improvisational work with students from the Music Communication program. After this process the compositions were performed by professional musicians as a part of an ambitious and elegant concert programme in Kaldalón on the start date of Children’s Culture Festival.

All pieces performed at the concert received the Upbeat Composition Award.

The upbeat is a cooperative project between the Harpa Concert Hall, the Reykjavik Children‘s Culture Festival, Iceland Art Academy of the Arts and KrakkaRÚV.
