Reykjavik Children´s Culture Festival

Children’s culture, culture for children and culture with children, these are the three main aspects of the Reykjavík Children’s Culture Festival: a week-long arts and culture festival dedicated to children and youth.

The Reykjavík Children’s Culture Festival was launched in 2010 and is already a huge success. Dedicated exclusively to children and young people in Reykjavík up to the age of 16, this annual festival strives to introduce the youth to a wide range of art disciplines through the medium of workshops and performances.

Opening day of Reykjavik Children´s Culture Festival takes place at Harpa April 25. 

11:00 Opening ceremony of Reykjavik Children´s culture festival at Eldborg Hall, Harpa. A performing art program put together for the whole 4th class of the city. Music, dance, theater. 1500 children come with their teachers. All guests invited.

13:30 Eniga Meniga An event of 350 five year old kindergarten children singing the songs of an Icelandic composer. This year it is Ólafur Haukur Símonarson a pop and childrens music composer. Young musicians play music and young dancers dance. This event is planned and organized by a Tónskóli Sigursveins in Reykjavik with the kindergartens.

15:00 Eniga meniga repeated with other children

17:00 Upptaktur. A music composition competition for children. Children send in their music compositions and get a workshop with icelandic music composers who finish the childrens artwork. This is a concert where professional musicians play the childrens music. Hall: Kaldalón in Harpa. Important and interesting.

19:30 Celebrating 70 years of classical dancing in Iceland. A dance performance program where children from 4 years to 18 years old dance on Icelands largest stage in Harpa, Eldborg Hall. A very nice event organized by The Icelandic Association of Professional Dancers.
