Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires performed in Iceland in 2011, when she played in Eldborg together with Maxim Vengerov. The concert was very memorable as Maria is one the leading pianist in the world. It is our a honor to get Maria Pires back to Iceland, now with a solo concert in Norðurljós Hall, December 11.
Maria João Pires has been performing for a long time but she first attracted attention in 1970 when she won the prestigious competition awards Beethoven Bicentennial in Brussels. She has performed with numerous orchestras in Europe, America, Canada, Israel, Japan and played in works by Bach, Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert, Mozart, Brahms, Chopin and more.
Many have waited for the arrival of Maria Pires back to the Iceland including one of our leading musicians, Víkingur Ólafsson, who had this to say about concert next weekend:

The Program will include Piano Sonata No.32 in C minor, Op.111 by Beethoven and Piano Sonata No.21 in B flat Major, D.960 by Schubbert.
