This year Finland celebrates the 100th anniversary of independence and republic. Finnish government is going to celebrate its independence centenary throughout 2017 , both in Finland and in the other Nordic countries.
Thursday January 19, Iceland Symphony Orchestra has a concert in cooperation with the centenary committee of Finland, where Finnish compositions are prominent. The concert is a part of the celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence. They are the first in a series of three concerts this spring with a Finnish theme. The Finnish government and the Finnish-Icelandic Culture Fund support the projects.
On this occasion Maria Lohela, president of the Finnish Parliament, is in Iceland for an official visit and will attend the concert tonight. Joining her will be the president of the Icelandic parliament and the president of Iceland along with congressmen, members of the Finish parliament, the management board of the anniversary year in Finland and ambassadors of foreign states in Iceland.
To join the celebration Harpa’s glass façade will display the flag of Finland today.
