Helgi Tomasson, artistic director of San Francisco Ballet, says he is extremely pleased to able to perform in a nice building like Harpa. It is not only good for concert but fantastic to show ballet. Helgi Tomasson said that at a press conference in Harpa yesterday, where he answered questions with a few of the main dancers from the company.
From 28 to 31. May the San Francisco Ballet will perform five times in Eldborg main hall with live performance from the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. The shows will be much larger than previous performances from the company in Iceland. Helgi says that Icelanders are now given the opportunity to see the best the ballet has to offer. The shows will be similar to those set up in San Francisco.
When one of his dancers, Frances Chung, was asked by a journalist if it was not horrible to work with such a passionate man like Helgi Tomasson she said no and it has been wonderful. Frances Chung didn‘t know anything about Iceland except Helgi Tomasson and Björk were from this strange land. She felt privileged to know Helgi and to be able to work with him and there was also a privilege to be here in Iceland and get to know the country and people.
The President of Iceland, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson invited the company to a reception in his home at Bessastaðir yesterday in honor of Helgi Tomasson and the San Francisco Ballet.
