Emilía Rós

with the Iceland Symphony

Flutist Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir performs the cheerful, elegant concerto by French composer Jacques Ibert. Her compact disc Portrait, released in November 2013, received rave reviews from the critics at Gramophonemagazine. The programme features another French work, Ravel’s Spanish-toned Rhapsodie espagnole one of the composer’s first pieces for large orchestra, and the lyrical Symphony no. 8 by Dvořák, who drew much of the material for the work from Bohemian fold music.

Conductor Antonio Méndez recently drew international attention when he won second prize at the Nikolai Malko Competition for Young Conductors in Copenhagen, where Lorin Maazel chaired the adjudication panel.
