Keys connecting

Students in The Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Helga Kristbjörg Guðmundsdóttir, Jón Þorsteinn Reynisson and Jónas Ásgeir Ásgeirsson founded accordion trio “Ítríó” in 2015. 2016 they were awarded second place in the international competition Pif-Castelfidardo in Italy and in 2017 they won first prize in the Royal Academy´s chamber music competition. They have performed in concerts and festivals in Iceland, Denmark, Norway and Italy and perhaps most notably in a concert in the Frederiksberg Metro station in Copenhagen. They have also taken part in events with audiences in Vilnius, Helsinki and Manhattan School of Music via live streaming. Their emphasis on reaching a wide audience by playing repertoire in different styles from various époques, contemporary, baroque, folk and tango. Their program includes Macedonian folk music, Icelandic music arranged by the trio as well as works by Finnur Karlsson, Jón Nordal, J. Deng, L. Boëllmann, T. Hosokawa and W. Zolotarjov. The concert takes place in the open space on the first floor in Harpa. The Welcome home series is hosted by the Icelandic Musicians association and introduces Icelandic music students studying abroad to audiences at home. Entrance is free.

The HARPA Welcome Series

presents home concerts with young musicians. It reaches out to those who have recently finished their studies abroad, inviting them to introduce themselves and their accomplishments to the audience at home, thus giving them a platform and an opening into professional life as musicians. Some young artists create their professional ground abroad and this series offers a possibility for our audience to follow their progress. Others come home to nurture other young talents and play a part in the extensive Icelandic musical scene. The Harpa Welcome Series shares with you our best young international Icelandic musicians: vocalists and instrumentalists, composers and ensembles of every genre — at home—in Reykjavik’s extraordinary Harpa Concert Hall.

Presented in cooperation with the Association of Icelandic Musicians.

The concerts are a part of Harpa´s Classical Sundays series and take place at 4 pm in the open space on the first floor.
