Halldór Smárason’s debut album, STARA, was recently released on the Sono Luminus label. To celebrate the release two concerts will be held in Ísafjörður July 30th and in Kaldalón, Harpa, Reykjavík August 20th.
Siggi String Quartet will perform three of the string quartets on the album and the other three works will be played in a surround sound system. Sono Luminus specializes in 9.1 fully immersive audio recordings, placing the instruments and sound sources around the microphone array, giving the listener an opportunity to experience the music as if placed in the center of the ensemble.
STARA contains six works composed in 2012-2018. The main performer on the album is Siggi String Quartet (Una Sveinbjarnardóttir, Helga Þóra Björgvinsdóttir, Þórunn Ósk Marinósdóttir and Sigurður Bjarki Gunnarsson), featuring guest artists Emilía Rós Sigfúsdóttir, Geirþrúður Ása Guðjónsdóttir Skelton, Gulli Björnsson, Helga Björg Arnardóttir and Tinna Thorsteinsdóttir.
