Camerarctica – Mozart arias and Brahms

Sunday Classics

This event has passed

Camerarctica chamber group plays classical music by Mozart and Brahms on Sunday Classics in Harpa, Sunday October 6th at 4:00 pm The first half of the program consists of three beautiful soprano arias by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart interspersed with instrumental movements for winds and strings, the second half being dedicated to the magnificent Quintet for clarinet and strings by Johannes Brahms.

The pair of concert arias by Mozart “Chi sà, chi sà, qual sia” kv 582 og “Vado, ma dove” kv 583 are coloured both by drama and classical lightness as is the opera aria Parto, parto from Mozart’s last opera, La Clemenza di Tito“, showing Mozart’s genius in writing for the soprano with a clarinet obbligato.

Both Mozart and Brahms had a great affection for the clarinet, impressed both by it’s singing tone and wide register. In the second half of the program, the Quintet for clarinet and strings by Johannes Brahms, which was among the last pieces he wrote, will be performed. Poetic writing colors all of the music in the program. The Quintet by Brahms has a „gypsy“ section in the slow moment in which the clarinet rhapsodizes over tremolandi strings. The quintet is a profound piece and is among the most admired masterpieces in the repertoire

The concert is approximately one and a half hour in duration with an interval.

Camerarctica ensemble was founded in 1992. Camerarctica has organized many music festivals, such as festival in memory of Hindemith, Fauré, Schubert and Brahms, and participated in Dark Music Days, Reykjavik Art Festival and Nordic Music Days. Camerarctica has given concerts organized by the Chamber Music Club every year since 1997 and performed, among other, string quartets by Shostakovich, Bartók and Zelenka sonatas. Camerarctica has annually held very popular concerts at Advent, titled “Mozart by candlelight”, and recorded CDs featuring Mozart’s works.
