The Icelandic Rockchoir was founded four years ago and has gone different ways than most other Icelandic choirs. The choir’s 30 members are experienced singers, both within your more traditional choral music as well as rock and pop music. The result is a powerful and totally unique sound that is clearly new of its kind in Iceland and something worth looking at. Rock and pop songs from Iceland will be on the program so it‘s certainly going to be a powerful atmosphere in Kaldalón this evening.
Well known musicians from Iceland will play with the choir such as Sigurgeir Sigmundsson on guitar, Þorvaldur Kári Ingveldarson on drums and Þórir Rúnar Geirsson on bass. The conductor is Matthias V. Baldursson (Matti sax) who will also be playing the keyboards. The choir was founded in the spring of 2015 by Matti sax and a few singers who wanted to form a choir more designed for pop and rock singers. The outcome was Rokkkór Íslands (The Icelandic Rockchoir). The first project was to go in a studio and record a few well-chosen songs that have since been played frequently in the media. The choir’s first performance was in Eldborg, Harpa’s main hall, in the autumn of 2015, for the anniversary concert of Sniglabandið. After that was no turning back and The Rockchoir of Iceland was clearly here to stay!
