The Boy and the Sweet-Shop – Iceland Symphony Orchestra

The Boy and the Sweet-Shop is a new musical adventure by Jóhann G. Jóhannsson, based on Roald Dahl’s story The Giraffe and the Pelly and Me. In addition to writing the music to The Message Pouch, Jóhann G. composed the extremely popular orchestral arrangement of songs by Astrid Lindgren, performed by the Iceland Symphony in autumn 2017. In The Boy in the Sweet-Shop, we tag along with a small boy and three of his animal friends — a giraffe, a pelican, and a monkey — on their adventures.

In captivating songs and colourful verse, the singers assume the guise of the characters in the story, animals as well as people. Over it all, the spirit of Roald Dahl soars like a bird, with humour, excitement, and unexpected plot twists, all the way to the end. This performance features Brynhildur Guðjónsdóttir, Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson, and the Reykjavík Girls’ Choir, who join forces and help one another to solve problems and make dreams come true. Conducting the concert is Noam Aviel, in her first turn on the podium with the Iceland Symphony.
