Stirni Ensemble

Sunday Classics

Stirni Ensemble held its first concert at the beginning of 2016 with good reviews. The quartet is somewhat unconventional in its setting as it consists of Björk Níelsdóttir soprano singer, Hafdís Vigfúsdóttir flute player, Grímur Helgason, clarinet player and Svanur Vilbergsson guitarist. The group has performed at various platforms in Iceland; such as at Dark Music Days, Hljóðön and in Harpa’s hall Norðurljós.

As well as promoting innovation with the “new” and unusual composition of the group, the goal is to make the most of new music, keep the mark of Icelandic music on the air, here and abroad and give people an insight into the breadth that has taken place in the music creation last decades around the world. The group utilizes the ability to alternate solo works, duos and trios, thus further enhancing the diversity of the repertoire and the flow of concerts. The focus is on the 20th and 21st century music. At Stirnis’ first concert, the tone was immediately set on interweaving different works in a coherent flow so that the experience becomes more like a performance or a journey that grabs you and forms one whole from the first to the last tone.
