Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble THEATRE OF VOICES and special guest, world-renowned recorder player MICHALA PETRI, visit HARPA as part of their North Atlantic Tour on 3rd August 2019. Theatre of Voices is known from soundtracks such as Jóhann Jóhannsson’s ‘Arrival’ and ‘Orphée’, several Arvo Pärt recordings and more than 30 CDs on international labels such as Harmonia Mundi, Ondine, Dacapo Records and Deutsche Grammophon.

Suitcases are packed with percussion instruments, lots of recorders and new Nordic music. Premieres include Faroese composer and Nordic Council Music Prizewinner SUNLEIF RASMUSSEN’s Songs of Solitude and Night and Greenlandic composer ARNANNGUAQ GERSTRØM‘s Textures of Snow and Ice.

As a special greeting to our friends in Iceland, we bring the first public performances of Holy Thursday, JÓHANN JÓHANNSSON’s reworking for Theatre of Voices of the string quartet piece Ég Heyrði Allt Án Þess Að Hlusta (from the album ‘Englabörn & Variations’), and Jerusalem Hymn – a vocal piece by Jóhannsson and his long-time collaborator HILDUR GUÐNADOTTIR (for the film ‘Mary Magdalene’).

More music by the late Danish composer PELLE GUDMUNDSEN-HOLMGREEN and Estonian composers ARVO PÄRT and GALINA GRIGORJEVA.

The concert is conducted by artistic director PAUL HILLIER.
