Manbirds is an art group that makes music from the sounds of Icelandic birds. The band consists of biologist Kristján Þórhallsson and musician Tumi Torfason. As a creative summer job for Reykjavík youth center they will perform their music out in the streets and hold four concerts in the city. Each concert is dedicated to a specific classification of birds.
This second concert will showcase brand new music that was composed from sound recordings of the birds on Flatey island. There Manbirds found and recorded the Black Guillemot, the Black-legged Kittiwake, the Common Eider, the Arctic Tern, the Common Redshank, the Oystercatcher, the Red-necked Phalarope, the Northern Fulmar, the Snow Bunting and the Common Ringed Plower with a directional microphone. These sounds have been intertwined in harmony and rhythm and will be played with live instrumental performance and improvisation.
Admission is free and everyone welcome!
