Le Grand Tango

Classical Sundays with a dash of tango

Le Grand Tango is a tango septet which is built around the bandoneon player and composer Olivier Manoury. Other members are some of the most renowned mucisians of Iceland, pianist Edda Erlendsdóttir, violinist Auður Hafsteinsdóttir, violist Þórunn Marínósdóttir, cellist Bryndís Halla Gylfadóttir and bassist Richard Korn.

The group has frequently performed at Reykjavik Art Festival, Salurinn concert house in Kópavogur, Kirkjubæjarklaustur chamber festival, in Ísafjörður and Akureyri. They have as well recorded a CD with singer and composer Egill Ólafsson, with music of Astor Piazzolla.

Since 1979 Olivier Manoury has been engaged as a bandoneon player, along with ensembles, singers and tango dancers. He has travelled all over Europe and participated in numerous music tours and art festivals. Manoury has composed for films and television as well as arranging works for orchestras. In addition, many CD recordings contain Manoury’s works, i.a. duets with the pianist Enrique Pascual and the baritone singer Jorge Chamíné, a quartet with the Tangonéon group and a septet with the group Tempo di Tango.

The program will include exciting tango music by A. Piazzolla, C. Gardel,  O. Manoury and others.
