Christmas at the Iceland Symphony

There’s nothing like the Iceland Symphony’s Christmas concerts to ring in the holiday season, with old and new Christmas music performed by the orchestra and a host of young artists. The concerts have been extremely popular, and deservedly so, infusing the atmosphere with cheerful anticipation of the coming holidays. This year’s Christmas concerts include music favourites from various countries. A stunning recorder consort comprising musicians from Árnes Music School, as well as a team of percussionists and the group Hörpuhópur, are among the ensembles making their first appearance with the Iceland Symphony this year.

Solo vocalists Hrafnhildur Árnadóttir Hafstað, Unnsteinn Manuel, and Kolbrún Völkudóttir, together with the Reykjavík Girls’ Choir, the Litlu Sprotarnir Sign Language Choir, and the Reykjanes Music School Bell Choir perform Christmas classics. Dancers from the Iceland Ballet Academy float on the stage in Eldborg hall to the tune of The Skaters’ Waltz, and young percussionists shine in the ever-popular The Little Drummer Boy. Master of ceremonies is the unforgettable and heartwarming Barbara the Clown (known in everyday life as Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir). Christmas at the Iceland Symphony is an event no music lover should miss. The concerts are also performed in Icelandic Sign Language.
