Brahms: Opus 120

Classical Sundays - Arngunnur Árnadóttir and Ben Kim

Arngunnur Árnadóttir and Ben Kim will perform the two Sonatas by Johannes Brahms for clarinet and piano. The Sonatas are among the brightest pearls of classical chamber music as well as being a cornerstone in Brahms’s oeuvre. They were among the last pieces of music that he composed. In addition to Brahms Ben and Arngunnur will play Vier Stücke Op. 5 by Alban Berg, the lyrical one in the composer group of the Second Viennese School.

Arngunnur Árnadóttir studied clarinet playing in Reykjavík and Berlin. Since 2012 she has held the position of first clarinetist at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra as well as performing as a chamber musician and soloist in various places.

Ben Kim is from The United States but lives and works in Berlin. He won first prize in the prestigious ARD competition in Germany in 2006 and has performed at venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and Philharmonie in Berlin.
