Meet in Reykjavík founded on January 27th 2012
Today, the City of Reykjavík, Icelandair Group and Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre founded a new cooperative effort to market Reykjavík as an international conference and event city. There are fifteen founding members altogether for the project, titled Meet in Reykjavík, and the financial base of the project is 95 million ISK.
The project aims to include all the travel companies in Reykjavík and that within three years the contribution from the economy will double the contribution by the City of Reykjavík.
Travel connected to conferences, meetings and international events of various kinds is one of the most important factors in increasing tourism to Reykjavík. Harpa Reykjavík Concert Hall and Conference Centre is another investment in the city that supports the tourist and the meeting industry offering precious opportunities. It is important to put more emphasis on marketing Reykjavík as a convention and event city to be able to receive interesting international events to the capital.
Among the aims set by Meet in Reykjavík within the next three years are:
- To increase the annual amount of conference and event visitors by 20 %
- To increase annual income by a minimum of one billion ISK
- To increase international conferences in Reykjavík to at least 30 per year.
